Ranking Every Concert I Went To In 2024
As of this writing, it is September 28, 2024. I have been to six concerts this year. As October seems to be the last month of the year that most bands really do shows (because concerts don't really happen in the winter very much), and October is too close to really get tickets and set up another day to see a concert, I'm pretty sure I'm unfortunately done with concerts for the year. Six is a great number to cap it off on, and I'm excited to see what bands I see in 2025.
So, since my 2024 concert season is (presumably) over, I thought I'd take a little bit to rank all six concerts I went to.
6. Taking Back Sunday
-Opener(s): Citizen
-Date: June 12, 2024
-Venue: Mission Ballroom
Let me just first say that it breaks my heart to rank this one last, because I loved it. It's only at the bottom because I can't justify any of the other five being below it. I went with my best friend, and it so cool to see such an iconic emo/alternative band surrounded by so many similar people. And I don't care what people say about Adam's voice or whatever - he sounded great, and performed just as well. Their stage presence is amazing. It was a great show.
5. Something Corporate
-Opener(s): Zac Clark, Mae
-Date: September 27, 2024
-Venue: Mission Ballroom
This one happened last night, so obviously it's very fresh on my mind. It was awesome, even cooler considering that this is the band back on a reunion tour. My sister and I had seen Andrew McMahon solo before as part of a big gig, so it was cool to see him again, but this time as the lead singer of a band. I knew nothing by either of the openers, but they were both good too. Plus, I saw them at the same venue I saw Taking Back Sunday in, so it was cool to start and finish the concert year in the same place.
4. Twenty One Pilots
-Opener(s): Balu Brigada
-Date: August 15, 2024
-Venue: Ball Arena
Here come the big boys. Twenty One Pilots is a massively successful band, so obviously there was a lot of hype to this one. There was a lot of pre-recorded music playing, and it's obviously cooler to see the members playing all the music live themselves, but TOP is only two guys, so that's understandable. And they are both two incredibly talented guys. There were so many cool effects, so many fun audience interactions, and just a lot of energy and passion.
3. Vampire Weekend
-Opener(s): Christone "Kingfish" Ingram
-Date: July 19, 2024
-Venue: Red Rocks
This is probably the closest I've ever been to the stage. I usually don't put earplugs in, but I had to because it got too loud at a point. But it was amazing. The guys in Vampire Weekend have so much musical talent and passion for the craft that it's kinda scary. They also went non-stop for like, a long time - my friend and I left early, mostly due to the combination of the facts that I was coming off a concert literally the night before and the fact that I had a flight the next day and didn't wanna not be home until like 2AM. But it was amazing, and Red Rocks is such a beautiful place that any concert there is immediately awesome just because of the environment.
2. AJR
-Opener(s): Almost Monday, Mxmtoon
-Date: July 18, 2024
-Venue: Ball Arena
The guys went above and beyond for this tour, and I'm so glad that they did. It was my sister and I's second time seeing them. It was so spectacular that it would be #1 if not for the sheer magnitude of who the actual #1 is. There were so many effects and tricks going on on the stage; literal theatrics. So much work and dedication went into this show and I'm sure the whole tour was just the same. It just goes to show how talented and dedicated these brothers are.
1. Green Day
-Opener(s): The Linda Lindas, Rancid, The Smashing Pumpkins
-Date: September 7, 2024
-Venue: Coors Field
There was no question that this was gonna top the ranking. If you thought it might've been something else, you were fooling yourself. Literally a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, and this show cemented them as not just one of my favorite bands, but my favorite band. And in a massive stadium. Not only all that - but the concert involved them playing ALL of Dookie and ALL of American Idiot (my favorite album ever), plus some selected other songs from their discography. Needless to say, it was beyond amazing. I stood on my feet for their whole performance, no matter how many people around us had given up and sat down, and was still sing-shouting every lyric, to the point that my throat was sore for days after.
