Universe Log 5: I Wouldn't Change A Thing

"The words we never got to say/even though we walked away/we'll always have a song to sing/the truth is/I wouldn't change a thing."
-ILLENIUM ft. Thirty Seconds To Mars, "Wouldn't Change a Thing"

In a universe there exists technology, a machine one can enter and can experience what would've become of their life if things played out differently; if different choices were made. "What if that person you love was still alive? What if that relationship never ended? What if you were still at that job?" And endless more answers to life's questions are at your finger tips for a "small" fee.
The thing is - many who use this machine regret doing so afterwards. Most of them are either saddened about what could've been, or saddened that what they thought would've been ideal actually is not, and they feel even worse about their actual station because it isn't preferable either.
The advent of these virtual realities is proving a hard-to-digest truth to the denizens of this universe - accept what has become of your life and never stop seeking improvement. You cannot change your past, so there is no use dwelling over it. What you can control is your present, and, in some degree, your future.
You can mourn people and things you've lost, sure, but don't let such things beyond your control hinder your direction. In the words of Hamilton, "you have no control who lives, who dies, who tells your story."
When one of my coworkers was dumped by his long-time girlfriend, I was desperate to provide comfort for him but struggled with how. One of the things I told him was that "nothing happens that isn't supposed to." In large part because I believe in a benevolent Creator who presides over and dictates all events, I believe that whatever happens in our lives is supposed to, in order to shape us. God is an author, and authors care about their characters. Any deviations to God's will for us and our stories are merely those under His control fighting against that control - and what good can a creation do rebelling against the Creator?
Anyway, do not make use of these things. Your guide strongly recommends against it. Try to find comfort in what you have and don't have and don't dwell on what could've been or what could be.
