Episode 26: Mr. Hardy... Destroys The World?

I'm tired of saving the world. It's beyond saving. It's gonna end anyway. Why don't I speed up the process? I'm destroying the world!

"If the world is ending, I'm throwing the party."
                                 -Cobra Starship, "Guilty Pleasure"

2012
It's ten years ago. Everyone is freaking out about December 21st. All because of some flawed belief that an ancient Mayan calendar said the world would end on December 21st, 2012. That's not actually what it said at all, but that didn't stop people from panicking. I remember sitting in the car on that day, thinking it didn't feel like the world was going to end. It freaked me out, sure, but when I was living in the actual day, I didn't feel like doom was impending.
Sure enough, obviously, the world didn't end. December 22, 2012 came and the days kept coming and they keep coming. They even made a movie about the apocalypse actually happening in 2012 and people surviving in what was left of the world. It was literally called 2012.

Nuclear War?
Ever since America dropped two atomic bombs on Japan in 1945 to end WWII, people have worried about nuclear annihilation. I wasn't there for the Cold War, but I know from people who were that nuclear war was a constant fear. It still is today, but not as much as it was then. In school, they showed us school videos from the forties and fifties that showed kids how to protect themselves from a bombing. Of course ducking and covering won't protect you from bombs, but we should make the kids think there's a chance they won't explode, shouldn't we?

Robots Rising Up?
This one is picking up traction lately. This has been a theory for the end for a long time, but with the advent of personal home robots and smart devices, it seems like an even more likely thing. Shows like Black Mirror and Love, Death and Robots only help to increase people's fears of technology revolting.

Climate Change
Some people think that because of our constant pollution and general disregard for the environment, we will eventually have degraded our planet so much that it will be uninhabitable and we will just die off. People in the past have made statements that Earth will be uninhabitable by year x, and obviously it's never happened.

ALIENS?!
Ah, yes. Are we alone in the universe? Not according to many people. Some people think that the world will end when extra-terrestrials come to our planet to either take it over and enslave us or yo outright destroy it.

How will the world actually end?
I used to be terrified of the end. In 2018 I believe there was a whole conspiracy about aliens coming and wiping us out, and that it was connected to the missing Malaysian Airlines flight. That scared the poopies out of me.
But I'm not scared of the end of the world anymore. I've read the book of Revelation. I know that Jesus said that no one besides God the Father knows when the end will come. Not even Jesus or the angels know. I don't have the fear anymore, I just have the relief that, when it all goes down, I know I'm gonna be on the right side of things.

In Conclusion
You know what, I think I'll still keep saving the world. It's gonna end eventually, but I can hold it off until it does.

See you next week!
