CRAPS: Chaos Walking

This movie came out a while ago, and stars the likes of Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley, Mads Mikkelsen, and Nick Jonas. When it had first come out, I thought it was just a rip-off of Y: The Last Man. That story, if you're unaware, is about a plague wiping out every male on Earth except for a young man named Yorick Brown and his pet monkey. The movie, from the promotions and stuff, seemed to be the same thing but with the sexes reversed, with Daisy Ridley's character being some sort of "X: The Last Woman".

What it actually is, however, is a sci-fi future where men live on a new planet where their thoughts are broadcast to others in a mist around them called their "noise". Women have died off on this area of the planet. I'm sure the movie explained why but I honestly don't remember.

Daisy Ridley's character, Viola, crashes on Todd's (Tom Holland's character's) planet, and since she is hunted for escaping and being a woman thus impervious to the noise, Todd vows to protect her from the people after her, and from the people who are after him, which includes a psychotic preacher named Aaron. They find villages that include other women, who also don't have the noise. Among Todd and Viola is Todd's dog Manchee, whom Aaron ends up drowning a river. That, obviously, was hard to watch.

Viola ends up killing Aaron, and Todd kills the other main villain, Mads Mikkelsen's character, alongside her. The two of them end up alive and on a new ship. The whole movie teased some kind of romantic relationship between them, will-they/won't-they. They don't. It was weird to see Tom Holland playing someone other than Spider-Man.

Characters: 9/10. May be the strongest department this movie had. Todd and Viola were both great and Aaron was very easy to hate. Mikkelsen and Jonas also did good jobs.
Rewatchability: 6/10. I don't know, man. I don't think I'd ever rewatch this unless someone really wanted to watch it with me or I was doing some kind of Tom Holland marathon or something.
Artistry: 7/10. It's a unique sci-fi world and I can appreciate that much.
Plotlines: 6/10. The whole thing is kinda weird and can be pretty hard to follow. But it gets points for originality.
Soundtrack: 6/10. Nothing that really caught my ear, but what are you gonna do?

Overall: 34/50

The movie was based on the book The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness.
